Tried and True Tips for Photographing Your Pet

Did you celebrate National Dog Day today? We did! My hubby and I woke up extra early and took our pup for a nice long walk.

In honor of our furry friends, today I’m sharing 5 tricks you can use when photographing your pet.

1. Use Your Voice. Not the one you use when you tell at your kids. The high pitched, squeaky noise that comes out of your mouth when you see a cute baby. Call his name. Whistle. Make a clicking sound. Ask if they want a treat. Noise will help to perk up your pup’s ears.

2. Tire Them Out. Go for a long walk. Run around in the backyard. Anything that might help an energetic dog let off some steam so that when you’re ready to snap away, they are all tuckered out and have no choice but to sit still!

3. Get a Box of Treats. My puppy loves liver treats. Like, she’s seriously obsessed. I think she would be my laundry for me if I gave her an extra one. Find your doggies favorite treat and use it!

4. Try a Prop. I would recommend this tip for small children too. Anything that might help to keep them contained. If they’re small, find a basket to put them in. If they’re bigger, try a colorful chair.

5. Be Patient. What’s that saying in Hollywood? Kids and animals are the hardest to work with? It helps if they have some basic training commands down like sit and stay. Get your kids to help! Better yet, capture them both!
