How do you decide that a photo is your favorite? Is it because your subject is smiling? Maybe it’s the moment you captured? What makes you want to save it?
I’m asking because I have a lot of favorites. Too many. One thing I’ve had to learn how to do as a photo obsessed mom is delete. Gasp! I know, it sounds so mean. 😂 How could I delete photos of my kids? Well, it’s actually pretty easy.
Think about it. How many photos do you have of the same thing? You press the shutter repeatedly trying to capture the perfect moment. I do it. After all, I’ve got a busy toddler who doesn’t always want to stop and take a photo. I’ll take 100 pictures just to get one. You know what I’m talking about right?! Deleting has helped me get control of the butt load of photos I have. If I’m taking pictures on my cell phone I’ll take as many as I want and then go back through and favorite the best one of the series. Maybe two, but no more than that. The rest get deleted. Then when I’m looking for something to post on Instagram, I’ll grab it from my Favorites album. Or when I want to make a @chatbooks, all of my favorite photos are in one place.
I do the same thing with my big camera photos too. My trash can is always full. 😂 I felt bad at first, but then I started thinking about what I was going to do with all those photos and it’s made it easier to pick and choose.
So my challenge for you is to start deleting photos. Be more intentional about the photos you take, why you save them, and what you’re going to do with them. Are you up for the challenge?
