My very first Little Lovies session! I’m so excited!

Does your little one have a favorite stuffed animal? Something they cling to when they are tired or frightened? A blanket or doll they are so attached to it follows them everywhere? That is a lovie!

The object’s your little one’s love to cuddle and kiss. They have names. They have personalities. They each have their own story.

Little Lovies is an ongoing personal project. Over the next few months, I’ll be photographing mini session with children and their lovies in their home. At today’s session I met Miya. How could I resist this sweet girl and her teddy bear. Here’s what mom has to say about Miya’s lovies.

“The pink bear (aka. “Kuma-san” which means teddy bear in Japanese), she got from her grandparents.  They brought it to the hospital on the day she was born with a pink balloon attached to it.  The pink bear has been sitting on a dresser near her crib for months until she was about 1 year old and wanted to start playing with it.  Now at 2 years and 3 months old, she has to have her bear with her all day as long as she’s in the house.  She can leave the house without the bear, but in the house, she has the bear do everything she does.  All the pretend play is usually with the bear.  When she’s coloring with crayons, she will take the bear’s hand and have it hold the crayon and then draw.  It’s so precious.  She plays with Kuma-san and she also needs Kuma-san to sleep.
The other lovie is her white lamb (aka “Merry-san”).  She has also had the lamb since the day she was born.  One of my friends got it for her and her twin brother at my baby shower.  She has slept with this lamb in her crib from day 1 but it does not come out of her crib.  She knows that Merry-san stays in the crib so she doesn’t ask me to bring Merry-san down with her when she wakes up, but she sure won’t go to bed without it.  If it falls out of her crib, she will cry until she gets it.  She takes one end of the lamb and usually pets it until she falls asleep.  I love watching her fall asleep on the monitor, she just melts my heart.”
Here are a few of my favorite shots from the session. Can’t wait to do more of these!!
