What a roller coaster of a day! It started out lovely. The weather was beautiful. I told my teenagers they had to be up at 10:00 for bunny pancakes and to dig in to their Easter baskets with Olivia. This was my first time making these and they turned out super cute. I wanted to try and make the day as special as we could since we can’t be with family.
When Olivia went down for her nap, we all got started on our first annual, “Nailed It,” competition. Have you seen the show? It’s so fun! Basically contestants are asked to make these beautiful Pinterest worthy cakes and desserts and the results are always hilariously bad. We wanted to try it for Easter so we chose a bunny cupcake. It was kind of easy so we’re already talking about next year!
My mom chose the winner, which happened to be me. It was totally fair though, I promise!! After that we ate a delicious meal from a local restaurant and did an Easter egg hunt outside. My oldest created a scavenger hunt with clues inside each egg, but Olivia was too impatient to really care.
We stayed outside for the rest of the afternoon and then my mom got some sad news about a family friend who passed away from COVID-19. It was so bizarre to actually know someone who died from the virus that is turning our world upside down. I couldn’t help thinking about her kids and her husband who didn’t get a chance to see her and say goodbye. And there are so many unknows about if they’ll even be able to get her out of the hospital in time to bury her. My heart breaks for the family and for so many others who are hurting right now.
Later that evening my sister texted me with more news about a motorcycle accident that my brother in law got in. He’s fine now, but had to go to the emergency room which is a scary thing itself these days. She rode in the ambulance with him, but couldn’t be with him in the hospital. The kids were scared and so was she. It was really a crazy ending to an otherwise great day.
