Capture The Milestones

There are so many little milestones during childhood that don’t often get documented. The little moments & the little victories we completely forget about because they aren’t the “big” things. But little wins are actually a really big deal and should be documented. Because those little moments are BIG moments & BIG wins to your little’s, so celebrating & capturing those moments are really important.

For example, Olivia was so proud when she learned to zip up her coat all by herself. I wanted to capture the moment one morning before school and we typically go for the smiling & posed photo but a smiling photo wasn’t going to cut it. I wanted this to be more meaningful & a typical smiling photo just didn’t capture the story like I really wanted too.

So instead, I got in nice and close and took a photo of her little fingers fumbling with the zipper. Now that’s a memory! That is something that we can truly cherish & remember years from now. And a photo like that really captures what she was doing, what we were celebrating that day vs how the regular smiling photo would have turned out to be.

And guess what is even better about it? I didn’t have to beg her to smile or look at the camera! She was more than happy to show me how she does it. I think that’s why I love photographing everyday moments of my kids. So much less stressful than trying to get the perfect portrait. And that is a win win for a mom, capturing the memories with less stress and more cooperation.

You tell me, which photo means more to you as a mom?

Don’t get me wrong, I still want smiling photos of my kids, but the storytelling photos matter just as much! That’s what I hope to inspire members inside the Memory Keepers Club, to capture these small everyday moments but in their own unique and special ways.
