5 Reasons You’ll be Happy You Booked an In Home Session

Yesterday was the first day of fall. It’s my favorite time of year!! I love the cooler weather and the beautiful, rich color all around. I’m obsessed with Halloween and all things pumpkin flavored. The only problem is that fall means winter is right around the corner. And me and winter are not friends. I’m all about snuggling up on the couch with a warm, fuzzy blanket, but the thought of bundling up to get in the car and drive the kids to school in the mornings makes we want to bury my head underneath the covers forever!

The cooler temps also means that business starts to slow down. It’s difficult to get families to warm up to the idea of shooting outdoors when it’s 40 degrees out! I am totally with you! But, what about scheduling a session in your home? I get the feeling that a lot of you hesitate thinking, “my house doesn’t look like a Pottery Barn catalog.” OK well neither does mine. In fact, it’s more like an IKEA advertisement. But, that doesn’t stop me from taking pictures. And it shouldn’t stop you either! Need more convincing? I’ve got 5 reasons you’ll be happy you booked an in home session!

1. Your kids will be comfortable at home. They love when I come in and ask to see their room or their favorite toys. Plus, we have fun! We laugh, we play, we have a snack! It can be less stressful for kids to have a session at home where things are familiar.

2. You will love looking back on your images years from now and reminiscing about the details of your home. The kids will love it too. When they are grown and have kids of their own, they can show them what their room looked like or their cool race car bed.

3. Your home is your castle. It reflects your style, your values, all the things that make your family unique. It’s filled with treasures that often get overlooked and forgotten about. Having your home as a backdrop in pictures will preserve those treasures forever. The dolls in the image were her moms as a child. They were tucked away in a closet somewhere, but I begged mom to take them out. How amazing will it be for her to have this shot years from now?

4. You can capture routines that are special to you. Bedtime stories, bath time giggles, Saturday morning snuggles. You’re probably too wrapped up in enjoying those moments to remember to record them. Have someone capture it for you! I loved Saturdays morning when my girls were little and they’d crawl into bed and watch cartoons. The bed was always too small. Now, they reach for an Ipad before coming in to say good morning. I miss those days!

5. Pictures last a lifetime. A lot longer than the fancy handbag you bought at Nordstrom last week or the Ben Franklins you dropped at Target for stuff you don’t really need. Time is the enemy and before you know it, the kids will be out of the house and you’ll be sad you didn’t take more pictures. Trust me!
